About Fred Blau
I’ve used mirrors and reflections in my work. They alter perspective and reveal subjects indirectly, suggesting that meaning is not always found through direct observation. A reflection merges what stands before us and what lies behind us, held together in a single image.
I’ve also worked with veils aka dance scarves. They speak to the personal filters shaped by experience, memory, awareness, and emotion through which we encounter the world. Rather than attempting to remove those filters, I acknowledge them, allowing partial obscurity to become a space for contemplation.
Finally, I enjoy using these techniques to create abstract images that are compelling visually and emotionally.
Ultimately, I want my work to encourage a second look and the recognition that what we see is inseparable from how we see it.
I have been fortunate to have my work shown in multiple juried shows. I am also a Juried Artist Member of the Wickford Art Association.
